Larry Marshall
Larry Marshall is founder and chief executive officer of Marshall Consultants, LLC. The firm has specialized in executive search and management consulting in the PR, corporate and marketing communications function since its inception in 1967.
Larry began his career in recruiting with Howard Sloan Personnel Associates, a general personnel recruiting firm in New York City. He created and headed their public relations and advertising division for five years. Previously, he had been with a small advertising and public relations agency as Creative Director and V.P. Accounts Manager. Prior to this, he had a career as a featured performer in theater, film, and television.
Larry has been bi-coastal, having headed the firm's eastern and western offices, and is one of the few communications search professionals knowledgeable about the business climate on both coasts. Under his leadership, they have had unparalleled success in servicing over half of the Fortune 500 companies. They have also represented most of the major and evolving PR and advertising agencies, as well as prestigious institutions and non-profit organizations for 40 years.
Larry is also Co-Founder and a Managing Partner of Marshall Fundraising Managment. It assists non-profit organizations with their fundraising programs and special events.
His articles have been published in various professional publications and he has spoken before numerous professional groups.
Larry has been a member of the Public Relations Society of America, International Public Relations Association, International Association of Business Communicators, National Investor Relations Institute, Entertainment Publicists Professionals Society and the International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruitment.
He is married to Joy Marshall. The couple’s residence and office is in Ashland, OR.
Joy Marshall
Joy Marshall is President and Managing Director of Marshall Consultants, LLC. She heads the firm’s operations, research, as well as handling recruiting and management consulting for non-profit organizations and foundations. Joy recruits senior Development and Management talent for non-profit organizations, foundations, healthcare communications, and senior-level corporate social responsibilty and cause-related marketing executives.
She had previously consulted for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN was founded by Marie Osmond & Family) where she guided hospitals for children in creating successful corporate fundraising events and cause-related marketing programs. Marshall also served on staff at several of the CMN hospital's foundations. Prior to joining Marshall Consultants, she had developed a successful career in creating unique cause-related marketing programs and corporate-sponsored special events for children's hospitals and other non-profit agencies. These have included Boys and Girls Clubs of America, United Way, as well as international humanitarian relief missions, such as the Hmong refugees in Thailand.
Joy has a passion for "making a difference". She is a Co-Founder and a Managing Partner of Marshall Fundraising Managment. It assists non-profit organizations with their fundraising programs and special events, cultural and cause-branding healthcare, fine and performing arts and other worthy organizations.
She is a native of Southern California and is married to Larry Marshall. They reside in Ashland, OR.
Peter Dowd
Peter Dowd, formerly retired Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Fidelity Investments, has joined Marshall Consultants as Chairman. Dowd specializes currently in management consulting in corporate communications. This includes PR and corporate communications audits, PR and communications firm mergers and acquisitions, PR and corporate communications staff organization evaluation and training, as well as new business development for public relations consultancies.
With more than 30 years experience in agency and corporate public relations, corporate communications, advertising and marketing, Dowd has had long, successful management tenures with Texaco, as Vice President and General Manager of Public Relations, including editiorial services, media relations, community relations, corporate contributions, employee relations, and a full-scale video broadcast facility. He also supervised their sponsorship of the Texaco Metropolitan Opera live-radio program series.
His prior experience was with Hill and Knowlton, initially in New York, then managed their 5 western region offices as Executive Vice President, based in Los Angeles. He was also a Partner in the international PR and corporate communications management consulting firm, Haley, Kiss & Dowd. He began his career as a reporter with UPI.
As an avocation, he taught public relations consulting for several years at the University of Southern California. He now resides in Ashland, OR
Hugh McCandless, APR
Hugh McCandless, Executive Vice President-Emeritis, is serving in an 'of counsel' capacity to Marshall Consultants. Hugh now divides his time between Florida and California. He is a well known and respected recruiter, having joined the firm in 1987 and having run its New York City office. A veteran corporate communications and PR agency executive, he formerly headed the function at the international accounting and consulting firm Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche). On a limited basis, he is continuing to advise on selected client searches.
At other times in his career, Hugh headed his own PR firm in London and worked for the oldest public relations counseling firm (Ivy Lee & T.J. Ross agency). He was International PR Director with Sperry & Hutchinson (S&H Green Stamps), and he began his PR career at Westinghouse. Hugh is an accredited member of PRSA.
